Salon-de-Provence

Our last excursion was to the town of Salon, once the home of Nostradamus. I wanted to visit the Marius Fabre soap factory, but tours in English were not available at that time, and, in any case, we never did manage to find it. We did, however, spend several pleasant hours wandering through the town.

The Fontaine Moussue was a pleasant spot. Water drips through the moss and other vegetation that has grown on the original fountain which has been here since the 1500's.

A Baroque tower across the street from the fountain marks the northern entrance to the old city.

If you walk through the portal and up the narrow street, you arrive at the impressive Église Saint-Laurent, built in the 14th and 15th centuries.

I believe these are the walls of the Château de l'Empéri, a medieval castle that is now a museum dedicated to the French military up to the First World War.
